Kelly, which scored big ratings as it chronicled the decades-long sexual abuse claims against the embattled singer. Now, the cable channel has announced a two-hour follow-up special, Yahoo Entertainment reports.
Hosted by journalist Soledad O’Brien, Surviving R. Kelly: The Impact intends to highlight the reactions, conversations and scandals that followed in the wake of the original documentary. Most notably, its airing led to R. Kelly being charged with 10 counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse in February, and several more alleged victims have come forward.
Upon its release, Surviving R. Kelly drew 26 million viewers to Lifetime, breaking the network’s ratings records. Dream Hampton, the documentary’s showrunner and activist, was recently named as one of Time’s 100 Most Influential People.
Surviving R. Kelly: The Impact is set to premiere May 4 at 10:00 p.m. E/T on Lifetime.
