Marsai Martin Says Black Girls Need More Lead Roles in Movies

Marsai Martin and Issa Rae think film and TV could use more stories of Black girlhood.   The two are on a publicity tour for  their upcoming film, Little,  and opened up about the kinds of images they’d like to see on screen.

The 14-year old Marai Martin is the brain-child behind the film and executive producer.   She told ESSENCE that she’d love to see more projects about Black girlhood because “we do all the same things a regular person would, but we’re just not the leads in most of them.”
