Miguel is clarifying his bold comments from a recent interview with U.K.’s The Sunday Times, in which he claimed to make “better music” than fellow R&B peers Frank Ocean and The Weeknd.

The singer took to Instagram to clear up any notion that he’s better than any other artist.   “Yes, I am competitive, we ALL have to have a level of competitiveness to put ourselves on the line day in and day out,” he writes. “But I also believe there’s room for all artists.”

Miguel goes on to speak on individuality and makes reference to Ocean’s 2012 debut album title, Channel Orange, “There’s no need to compare apples to oranges, there’s something out there for everyone,” he writes. “That’s why I’m here and I’m able to do what I do. So, thank you to everyone who enjoys my music and all love to anyone who doesn’t, we’re all here to find our own wave and that’s OK!”

Miguel also made sure to plug his latest album, Wildheart, which was released last month.
