Prince Records Song for Baltimore

by

Warner Bros. RecordsIn light of the unrest in Baltimore, Prince has recorded a new song that addresses the killings of young black men and social and political issues around the country.

According to Billboard, Prince’s song is a tribute to “all of the people of the city of Baltimore.” It was recorded this week at Prince’s Paisley Park studio in Minneapolis, but it’s unknown when it will be released.

The icon isn’t the only celebrity expressing his concern —Beyonce, Joey Bada$$, Future Islands and The Game have publicly addressed the ongoing deaths of African-Americans at the hands of police.

The news comes after the death of Freddie Gray, a 25-year-old African-American who died of an apparent spinal injury while in police custody in Baltimore earlier this month, was ruled a homicide. Six officers have been charged with several counts, although charges differ for each individual, charges brought in the case include second-degree depraved-heart murder, manslaughter and second-degree assault, among others.
