Following the release of her latest album, The Electric Lady, Prince surprised Janelle Monáe by sending a bouquet of flowers and a singing telegram to her dressing room. Revolt TV was on hand to capture the moment as Monae was blown away by the thoughtful gesture from the legendary icon, who is featured the song “Give Em What They Love” from The Electric Lady.
In the telegram, Prince paid homage to Monae by reworking the lyrics to his classic tune, “Kiss.” The messenger can be heard singing: “You don’t have to be rich to be Monáe/ You don’t have to be a witch with a broom of hay/ Ain’t no particular rhyme that you need to say/ You just need a copy of Janelle’s Electric Lady.”
After she realized the gift was, in fact, from Prince, Janelle held back tears and said, “Thank you, Prince. I just wanna cry This is too much for me to handle right now.”
