ABC/Ida Mae AstuteKevin Hart reportedly fractured his spine in his car crash Sunday morning in Los Angeles.
The Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle star suffered three fractures in the accident and is receiving heavy medication for the pain, according to TMZ. Hart may be released from Northridge Hospital later this week, and is expected to make a full recovery.
The California Highway Patrol is investigating whether the driver, Jared Black, was speeding.
“It’s something that would be a focus considering the incident happened at that time of night when the vehicle apparently was alone on the roadway and the driver was not impaired,” CHP spokesman Weston Haver tells the New York Daily News.
As previously reported, Hart underwent surgery Sunday night following the crash of his 1970 Plymouth Barracuda at around 12:45 a.m. PT Sunday on Mulholland Highway in L.A.
The comedian was a passenger in the car, which the CHP said left the road and “rolled over down [an] embankment” when Black lost control of the vehicle.
Black is being treated at UCLA Medical Center. A third passenger, Black’s fiancée Rebecca Broxterman, was pulled from the wreckage and did not sustain major injuries.
