This week sees Rihanna celebrating her 26th birthday — on February 20 — and gracing her third cover of Vogue. She appears on the front of the magazine’s March 2014 issue, in which she discusses a wide range of topics, from her love of Instagram to wanting to launch her own fashion label.
The singer reveals how she’s able to endure her sometimes painful fashion choices. “It’s not about pain. It’s about the commitment,” she tells the publication. “I say to myself, ‘I want to look like this,’ and worry about the pain later.”
She adds, “I’ve had nights I had to tiptoe home and the balls of my feet wouldn’t even allow me to stand.”
Rihanna say her bold fashion statements have led many to perceive her as a rebel.
“I don’t go out of my way to be a rebel or to have that perception. But a lot of the decisions I make, a lot of the direction I want to move, is against the grain, or against society’s tight lane, and I’m aware of that sometimes,” she says. “It might not be fitting with the norm, but that’s OK for me.”
The March issue hits newsstands on February 25.
