Solange Knowles remains dedicated to preserving the stories of Black innovators and professionals. For her latest venture, she’s teamed up with the Brooklyn Academy of Music for Eldorado Ballroom, a music series that will feature and celebrate “contemporary and historic creative revolutionaries” who’ve positively impacted music and performance art.

Eldorado Ballroom, named after the Houston ballroom where her love of performance began, “takes an anomalous approach to celebrating the intergenerational expressions of experimental and transcendent performance through the decades,” Solange wrote on Instagram. Each of the series’ seven shows builds off an offering or theme that has informed her own practices.

Kicking off the series on March 30 is an R&B showcase featuring KeiyaAKelela and Res that Solange says “is going to leave such a lasting and powerful mark.”

April will bring the film series Unseen Nuyorican Pictures; the appreciation of Black dancers via Coeval Dance Films; and a show featuring The Clark Sisters that highlights songs from Mary Lou Williams. “That night is really special, because it’s centered around artists who’ve all in their own way dedicated their brilliance to unique musical conventions and to their devotion to God and Christ,” Solange tells Vulture.

In September, Eldorado Ballroom will end with On Dissonance, a celebration of jazz pianist Patrice Rushen and composer Julia Perry‘s classical and opera works.

“The whole series is just about honoring voices that I think should be taking up more space in the conversation, specifically about Black women in music,” Solange says.

The full schedule and a chance to access early tickets can be found on Saintheron.com. Tickets are available to BAM and Saint Heron members starting February 17 at 12 p.m. ET, with general tickets going on sale February 21.
