The Year in Music 2015 — Births, Breakups & Engagements

ABC/ Lou RoccoWith the good, comes the bad.  Here’s a roundup of the ups, downs and milestones hip-hop and R&B artists experienced in 2015:

Births
One of Hollywood’s most high-profile births happened December 5, when Kim Kardashian West took to her website to announce she and husband Kanye West had welcomed their second child. The site stated, “Mother and son are doing well.” The world found out in a follow-up post two days later that the child’s name is Saint.

Chrissy Teigen announced October 12 on Instagram that she and John Legend were expecting their first child.

Ne-Yo and his fiancee Crystal Renay are expecting their first child together in March. Their son will be named after Ne-Yo.

Melanie Fiona announced November 6 on Instagram that she’s expecting her first child with boyfriend and songwriter Jared Cotter.

Teyana Taylor announced in September that she was pregnant with her first child with her boyfriend, Cleveland Cavaliers star Iman Shumpert. The couple welcomed their daughter December 16, 2015.

Omarion and his longtime girlfriend, Apryl Jones, are expecting their second child together. Their son, Megaa Omari Grandberry, was born August of last year.

Reps for Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel told People magazine April 11 that the couple had welcomed their first child together, a son named Silas Randall Timberlake.

 

Engagements
Usher confirmed on The Ellen DeGeneres Show in early December that he and Grace Miguel had tied the knot in Cuba earlier in the year. The singer was previously married to Tameka Raymond, with whom he shares two young sons. 

Rick Ross proposed to model Lira Galore with a $350K engagement ring in October. The couple reportedly split weeks after.

Ne-Yo made headlines for proposing to his now-fiancee Crystal Renay in late August.

Chrisette Michele and music producer Doug Ellison announced their engagement in late October.

Iggy Azalea is planning her upcoming wedding to her basketball star boyfriend, Nick Young. The rapper got engaged in June after dating for nearly two years.  Young got down on bended knee during his 30th birthday party and presented Iggy with a yellow canary diamond engagement ring.

Teyana Taylor got engaged to her boyfriend, Cleveland Cavaliers star Iman Shumpert in November, during their baby shower at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Cleveland, Ohio.

In October, CeeLo Green revealed to People magazine that he’s been engaged to his longtime girlfriend, Shani James, for about a year.

Keyshia Cole confirmed on Twitter in December that she’s engaged to be married. This will be the second marriage for Cole, who married former NBA player Daniel “Boobie” Gibson in 2012.

Kid Ink took the next step in his relationship and proposed to his longtime girlfriend, fitness model Asiah Azante, in July.

 

Hook-Ups
Nicki Minaj
and Meek Mill are an item. Minaj and Meek were rumored to be engaged back in April, when she posted photos of her supposed engagement ring on Instagram.

Ciara has been romantically linked to NFL star Russell Wilson since April, just seven months after Ciara split with ex-fiance Future.

 

Break-Ups
Karrueche Tran and Chris Brown split in March after the singer fathered a baby girl with model Nia Guzman.

Big Sean split from Ariana Grande in March, reportedly due to hectic tour schedules.

In October, B.o.B confirmed he’s no longer in a relationship with Sevyn Streeter, whom he began dating back in January.

Bow Wow and Erica Mena were planned on getting married in the spring, but the couple broke up in September.

Divorces
Paula Patton was granted a divorce from Robin Thicke March 18. They separated the year before.

 

Deaths
A$AP Yams
— Announced January 18.  Rapper, member of the A$AP Mob collective that also included A$AP Rocky and A$AP Ferg. His birth name was Steven Rodriguez. He was 26.

B.B. King — May 14.  Guitarist, singer, king of the Blues. He was 89.

Bobbi Kristina Brown — July 26.  The daughter of Whitney Houston and Bobby Brown was found face-down and unresponsive in a bathtub seven months earlier.  She never regained consciousness and was placed in hospice care weeks before she died. She was 22 years old.
