Today, August 25th marks the 18th anniversary of the passing of Aaliyah. She was 22 years old when her plane went down in the Bahamas. The singer and her crew had been filming “Rock The boat” what turned out to be her last music video. Missy Elliott, who was very close to Aaliyah and helped craft her sound, wrote on social media, Aaliyah, its been 18 years now but your style and music still continues to impact all the generations behind you. May you rest in paradise. Singers Kehlani and Ella Mai also wrote tributes to Aaliyah. Monday night Missy Elliot will receive the MTV Video Vanguard Award and it will be interesting to see if she works in an Aaliyah tribute in her set.
