Experts: Scorching Temps Are ‘The New Normal’

The record high temperatures that have been baking the Southwest are “the new normal.” That’s according to a climatologist with the University of California, who says dry soil caused by the region’s “megadrought” has changed things permanently. “When the soil is wet, heat waves aren’t so bad,” says Park Williams. “But if it’s dry, we are under extreme risk.” The amount of heat the Earth traps has doubled in just 15 years, study show. The Texas power grid is already running a beyond full capacity and officials ask residence to conserve energy this weekend.
