Major League Baseball has chipped in to help restore a historical marker at the birth site of Jackie Robinson. The marker sits at a site along Route 154 in Grady County, Georgia – where a brick chimney is all that remains of the house where Robinson was born in 1919.  But the marker was defaced by vandals in February of last year. MLB stepped in, donating $40,000 for a new marker and a fund for regular upkeep.  A spokesperson said the league wants the marker to be “something that stands forever”. The defaced marker will be sent to the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum in Kansas City.
