It has been 25 years since the movie Eve’s Bayou debuted. The movie starred, a very young Jurnee Smollett, Samuel L. Jackson, Meagan Good, Lynn Whitfield, Diahann Carroll, Lisa Nicole Carson and Debbi Morgan. The independent movie grossed $14 million domestically and cost $4 million to make. It was the most commercially successful independent film of 1997. In 2008 the movie made Time’s list of the 25 Most Important Films on Race. In 2018 it was selected by the Library of Congress for preservation in the National Film Registry for being, culturally, historically or aesthetically significant.
