Jackie Robinson’s Name Misspelled on Road Sign

by

FILE – This is a March 1956 file photo showing Brooklyn Dodgers baseball player Jackie Robinson in Vero Beach, Fla. Brooklyn Dodgers Hall of Famer Jackie Robinson made his Major League Baseball debut and broke the sport’s color barrier in 1947. (AP Photo/File) Yikes, someone really struck out on this. A New York City road sign honoring Jackie Robinson was recently spotted. The problem? The baseball legend’s first name was spelled incorrectly. The sign spelled the name J-A-K-I-E, which could be pronounced as Jake-ee. New York City’s Department of Transportation replaced the sign with the correct spelling on Monday. This is clearly a breakdown in quality control.
