Beyoncé is making some more changes to her new album, Renaissance, removing the sample of Kelis‘ “Milkshake” from the track titled “Energy.”
The move comes after Kelis called out the “Break My Soul” singer for using the song without letting her know. Even though Kelis was credited on “Energy,” she posted two videos to Instagram expressing that her concern “has to do with the fact that, from one artist to another, you should have the decency and common sense and the courtesy to call.”
Kelis not only called out Beyoncé, but also Pharrell Williams and Chad Hugo, who produced “Milkshake.” Now, it seems she’ll no longer need to worry about it, seeing as the interpolation has been removed all together.
The removal comes at the same time that Beyoncé has agreed to change the lyrics in her song “Heated” after backlash that the lyrics contained an allegedly abelist word that’s widely considered derogatory in the disability community. A rep for the superstar confirmed, “The word, not used intentionally in a harmful way, will be replaced.”
In light of the recent change, Monica Lewinksy appears to also be lobbying for a lyric change in Beyoncé’s 2013 hit, “Partition.” Sharing a link to an article about replacing the ableist word, Lewinsky added, “uhmm, while we’re at it… #Partition.”
“Oh, me so horny, yeah, he want to f***/ He popped all my buttons, and he ripped my blouse/ He Monica Lewinsky-ed all on my gown,” Beyoncé sings in the track, referring to the former White House intern’s notorious affair with then-President Bill Clinton.
