Pharrell Williams Says Juneteenth ‘Should Be A Holiday For Everybody’

The push to make Juneteenth a holiday is growing, with several companies opting to give employees the day off. In Virginia, Governor Ralph Northam announced earlier this week that he’d make the day, which marks the end of slavery in the US, a permanent paid state holiday. Pharrell Williams played a large part in getting the state recognition passed, but he’s not finished there. Saying that Black Americans “never really had our Independence Day like we should have,” the singer told TODAY on Friday that a federal Juneteenth holiday is “the human right thing to do.”
