by

More sad news on top was already a tragic situation.

The father of Atatiana Jefferson, the Fort Worth woman who was shot while in her home by a now former police officer last month has died unexpectedly.

59-year old Marquis Jefferson suffered cardiac arrest Saturday and died Charlton Methodist Hospital in Dallas, according to a family spokesperson.

Mr. Jefferson was said to be under a lot of stress in the days after his only daughter’s death; couple with drama involving family of Atatiana’s mother, who he sought legal action against on grounds that they had excluded him from planning and participating in his daughter’s funeral.

Ms. Jefferson was playing video games with her nephew in the early morning hours of October 12.   She was shot by former Fort Worth police officer Aaron Dean after a neighbor called the police non-emergency line for a wellness check, out of concern that the front door of her mother’s house was open.

@LeeMerritt who is representing Ms. Jefferson family tweeted about the death:

“We’re saddened to learn of Marquis Jefferson’s death. Of course Atatiana’s death was a factor in his passing. Police brutality impacts victims, families, & entire communities alike. The anger & heartbreak felt around the country since the murder of Atatiana is still palatable.”
