Not everyone gets all warm and fuzzy when it comes to Valentine’s Day, especially those who are single. To help you out, K. Michelle has compiled four anti-romantic songs for the valentine-less.
The singer tells Billboard that her playlist begins with Whitney Houston‘s 1987 song “Didn’t We Almost Have It All.”
“I can only listen to it when I’m at my darkest points. Whitney’s voice has never just been about her range; it’s about her ability to make you feel her pain, her happiness, her hope, her resignation,” Michelle says. “When I hear it, I’m like, ‘Cut it off — I can’t take it!'”
In addition to country star Keith Urban‘s “You’ll Think of Me,” another classic on her list is Mariah Carey‘s 2005 tune “Mine Again,” because according to Michelle the “song stays with me.”
“It speaks to when you know [a relationship] is over,” she says. “It’s painful not to be with the one you love simply because you were at the wrong stage of life when you met them.”
Of course, Michelle also included her own material. The singer selected her new single “Not a Little Bit,” since the record is “about those last steps that a person takes after a breakup: when you can acknowledge the importance of the relationship but also see that you’re better off alone. It’s about taking your power back as a woman so you can stand strong as a single person, without regret.”
“Not a Little Bit,”will appear on K. Michelle’s new album, More Issues than Vogue, due out March 25.
