Multi-Grammy-winning musician PJ Morton shares his first-ever gospel album, Gospel According to PJ. It features vocal performances from gospel greats Yolanda Adams, Tasha Cobbs-Leonard, The Clark Sisters, Commissioned, Kirk Franklin, his father Bishop Paul S. Morton and more.
Ahead of the album’s release, PJ performed the opener, “Don’t Let Go,” which features Kim Burrell, during the NAACP’s 2020 Virtual March on Washington Thursday night.
R&B veteran Tyrese makes his return with “Legendary,” a powerful single addressing the nation’s racial unrest and protests over police brutality.
With Tyrese singing and rapping, the single features Cee-Lo Green, paired with a powerful video titled “8:46,” a reference to the amount of time former Minneapolis Police Officer Derek Chauvin spent with his knee pressed into George Floyd’s neck, resulting in Floyd’s death in May.
From Raheem DeVaughn‘s upcoming album, What a Time to Be in Love, comes the inspiring single for the times, “Marvin Used To Say.” The poignant song speaks to the ongoing social turmoil addressed nearly 50 years ago, when Marvin Gaye asked, “What’s Going On?”
The soothing, guitar-driven track finds DeVaughn singing about the pain of many in the Black community and the uncertainty created by COVID-19. With a vocal offering of hope and encouragement, Raheem gives shout-outs to activist Tamika D. Mallory, political commentator Angela Rye, and rapper Mysonne.
Lastly, Brennan Williams has produced a powerful remix and a reimagined video of Stevie Wonder’s“Black Man,” from his classic 1976 double album Songs in the Key of Life.
