The new surprise for prime-time television is a hit this season is Own TV’s ‘Queen Sugar’. The drama directed by Ava DuVernay, is the sweetest recipe for a cinematic look at the complexities a black family life. It features beautiful people that look like us struggle with love, divorce, money, scandals, adultery, strong black women in survival mode but most of all a history lesson in the journey of the Bordelon family and how they acquired the Louisiana sugar farm. I’m addicted, last week we learned the tragedy of how the the 800 acres farm has been paid for over and over with cash and blood. When the show made its debut in September it brought the highest ratings for a premier ion the OWN Network.
