Louisville airport to be renamed for Muhammad Ali. Muhammad Ali will be honored by his hometown of Kentucky when they rename the Louisville Airport, Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport.
The airport code will stay as SDF.
The name change has one more hurdle to overcome, approval from the Federal Aviation Administration.
Louisville’s mayor, Greg Fischer, said the name change reflects, the city’s pride in a local son who has left a legacy of athleticism, of humanitarianism that has literally inspired billions of people.
Thursday, January 17 would have been Muhammad Ali’s 77th birthday.
