Opal Lee Shows Kids How to Celebrate Juneteenth in New Book

by

This Juneteenth will be a special one as the “Mother of Juneteenth” will celebrate her new book, “Opal Lee and What It Means To Be Free.”

The book written by Alice Faye Duncan is a children’s book that tells the story of Lee’s fight to make Juneteenth a national holiday.

Ducan is encouraging families the celebrate June 19th by having a celebration at home or at a local park. Elders can tell stories of their own acts of bravery and determination.

Celebrate with music and create a playlist that includes titles such as “Juneteenth” by Fyütch and Alphabet Rockers, “Say It Loud – I’m Black and I’m Proud” by James Brown, and “Let’s Celebrate Juneteenth” by Power of We Club and Sesame Street
