Serena says the investment would be “no risk”, pointing out that “more people watched the college women’s basketball than the men.” It would likely boost the WNBA’s profile if Serena owned a team. Before her retirement from tennis Serena has invested in 66 start-up ventures including 16 unicorn companies valued at $1 billion. Nearly 78% of Serena’s start-up company investments have benefited women and people of color.
